Would like to give you all a tip before we wrap up the year. Have you notice that whenever you want something in life, you always think about yourself only and not the other party. It’s only all about your own success, your dreams or whatever your priority is.

The exciting life of a Pilot/Cabin Crew during standby duty
Each month on your flying roster, you have a couple of days of standby. For those who do not know what standby is,it is basically a set of crew on standby( hence the name) to operate a particular flight just in case anyone call sick or unable to fly due to any unforseen circumstances.
Depending on the airline, the one I flew with has a whole month of standby. Yeah, you read it correctly, one whole month. It is known as the "reserve month". It's the time of the month where it's hard to plan for your life as you have absolutely no idea what the month will bring.

Singapore Airlines ( SIA) cabin crew interview & stages (Updated Version)
Below are the stages of the recent SQ cabin crew open day held in Ipoh shared by one of my reader who successfully got the job.
Well, I had attended an interview session with Singapore Airlines last 2 weeks. August 6th,2011 held at Park Royal KL. I went there all by myself. It was really fun. And, I write this merely for the sake of sharing my personal experience. Mind you, I don't really need any judgement from you. So, here goes =)
We first had our documents checked. Kinda suprised to see not so many people turned up. Well, I expected to see thousands of applicants because oh my, it's Singapore Airlines people ! And most of them were Chinese. Did see 2 Malay guys, but they were like really in their own world. Heh~

Indonesian airline Garuda under fire for near-naked interview
(THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - An Indonesian airline came under fire after having female job applicants get almost naked during an interview.
Garuda Indonesia has recently interviewed applicants to pick 18 Korean crew members for its new flight service.
The women were ordered to take off all their clothes except their underpants for a 'health examination'. A male doctor touched their breasts to check whether they have implants, which the company said would endanger them when flying.
The company said it conducted the same examination when picking stewardesses in all countries, including Japan and Australia.

What are the airlines looking for in a candidate? Here are my Secrets :)
Apart from the usual stuff like grooming, being outspoken and confident, friendly and etc etc which you have already known, maybe I can share with you the method that I use personally and that of my fans ( those who pass and successfully got the job). By the way, I have helped hundreds of them achieve their dreams and from what I observed, though they are all from different background, they share similar attitude.
It is being proactive which simply means that you do and plan things ahead even though you are not required to do so. Confuse? Let me give you an example. Most will ask me when is the next interview and if you are a proactive person, your question would be” can you tell me what do I need to know or prepare for the next upcoming interview “. The difference between them is the second question shows that the person is preparing even though there are no opening currently. They do not wait till the last minute and take small baby steps in order to make sure they are well prepared, win over other candidates and be successful during the interview.

How much can a Cabin Crew/Pilot earn ?
As expected, this is also one of my top 10 questions that I am often being asked. A high or low salary definition differs from everyone depending on your background. For example, a couple of thousands may be high for a fresh 18 year old crew and not so high or even a pay cut for those that join say from a manager/supervisory post. For me, it’s is definitely high as my first crew job was right out of university.
So back to the title. How much can you earn as a crew? It of course depends on which and also what sort of airline you apply for whether it is private jet, full service airline or low cost airline. Well I am not going to talk to you about the difference between them as it will take an entire post to do so. Maybe next time.

Cabin Crew Experience Part 2
Another experience from a recent successful cabin crew wannabe.....
Hey Readers,
Am a loyal fan of Fly Gosh and a flight attendant with a full service airline. I've been flying for less than a month. I'm delighted to share some of my experience from where I started off my career.
Not so long ago, I was similar to most readers of Fly Gosh, we're called cc wannabes or flight attendant hopefuls. The starting pace, scrolling through the net hunting for walk-in interviews open day. But have you ever wonder what are some of the difficulties phases during trainings and what will life be when you commence flying?
As for myself, I started off with a not so huge interest of being a flight attendant as many claims it is just a "high-class" waitress job. Somehow after couple of months working, I realised that I wanted a more adventurous job, rather than engaging in the usual 9-5 routine. So I decided to pursue to become a cabin crew, as the job itself sounds quite interesting. I stumbled upon Fly Gosh and opt to go for one of the walk-in interview.
Naively, I went for my first interview without any preparation, thinking that I can get through it easily. The first thing that intimidate me was the crowd at the interview itself, never thought that cabin crew job is so popular among this era. I would say that the whole atmosphere at the interview is so fiery, because everybody attempts to "kill" each other just for the sake of the job.
Interviews for cabin crew are not the same as always. The way they conduct every batch of interview may be similar, but the questions asked and the way the interviewer judge will be different from time to time. I would say, its all depends on your personality and a little bit of luck on your side. Of course, image is important for any company, so well-groomed is also one of the top criteria they're looking for.
No company would want to hire someone sloppy or unpleasant. First impression always last. Infact, you don't have to be good looking to be a cabin crew, but you MUST be humble enough to be one. On the other hand, homework preparation is very important. Do acknowledge the company that you intend to join and get ready to answer all the questions. Act and answer confidently, it'll definitely score you an extra point instead of apologizing and saying "errr.. I don't know, I'm not sure..".
As lucky as I want to be, I'm not those that got through the first time of interview. Frankly speaking, I even thought of giving up as I felt so lousy & embarrassed when I failed during the interview. However, the positive thinking keeps me going. By not giving up and improving the mistakes that I did on my last interview. Finally, I got chosen from the walk-in interview of the second airline I went. Fleetingly happy, I decided to sign on the dotted line of the contract and started off my days of training with the company. The company that I joined is not my country base, so I had to leave my loved ones to a further distance.
As a crew, you must be mentally and physically ready to be based overseas. Some crew experienced major miss home situation, and decided to give up half way by paying the bond. Nothing comes easy, the first few months are the toughest time of all, but once you get comfortable and used to the country that you're living in, then it ease.

Nothing comes easy, the first few months are the toughest time of all, but once you get comfortable and used to the country that you're living in, then it ease.
During training, we need to fulfill all the standard of the test for practical and theory, including grooming, safety, first aid, service and also etiquette. Failing of which, the company will take termination action. Training schedules are very packed thus there is no time to fool around. Punctuation and attendance are very important and plays an important role.
Life when you start flying isn't that "GLAMOUROUS". Yes, you get to travel around, meeting different people, and the money's pretty good. As crew, you'll faced alot of fussy passengers that demands hell out of you, unruly (touchy/ violent) passengers and even passengers that just want to let it all out, hence they scream and shout at us eventhough its not our fault.
As a crew, you got to be prepared to be patient and smile throughout the flight, comply with passenger's needs because they are the ones that pays our salary, not the company.
What motivates me to work everyday is.. "if there is no passenger, then the company has no business, so I'll get no salary??" This way, I don't drag myself to work and look forward for the next upcoming flight.
Nevertheless, working with other crew is another issue that we must deal with. Not everyone work the same way, thus sometime personality clashes. Some crew can be really bitchy, nasty and difficult to work with, yet so long you're a junior crew you got to eat alot of humble pie and learn to apologize and say please and thank you, ALWAYS.
On contrary, when you're a senior crew do walk down the memory lane and think about it, because everyone starts the same, no one is born to be a cabin crew. Nonetheless, most of the company had implement rules against zapping so I guess zapping don't really exist in the crew industry unless you make room for that to happen. To play on the safe side, always be well-prepared for a flight, know your duties and always be humble, consequently no one can pick on you anymore.
I don't agree on people accusing of crew sleeping around with pilots, passengers for the sake of $$, promotion etc. Certainly there will be alot of "offers", but the choice is yours. If you're strong on your stand by declining, no one would force you to do it! Many mentioned that cabin crew is a "high-class waitress" job, but many doesn't know what is our capability in our job scoop. We're trained not to only serve food, but to know how to man our doors in the event of emergency, how to evacuate passengers to a safe place and how to operates all kinds of emergency situation needs. Likewise, as a cabin crew, you've got to adapt with impromptu sleeping hours and waking up time.
Situation like working through the night for long hours and enduring with no resting inbetween on occasion. Additionally, there is no "public holiday" for a cabin crew. Even so, during public holiday we got to work more as it is the peak session. The schedule life of a flight attendant is not so fancy as we wish. At normal basis, our schedule coresponding to 2 working days, then 1 day off, follow by 1 day of standby.
Well so much said, make your decision of pursuing your dream to become a cabin crew if you're really keen for it. There is also alot of useful elements and experience when you're a cabin crew, you learnt good etiquettes, juggle time management properly, be independent and mature, as well as understand different cultures better. Sooner, all the good elements will be inculcate in your life.
No matter how bad a flight can be, let it passed and moved on from it. I hope my experience sharing will be useful and all the best to those opting for the approaching interviews. Be yourself and remember to speak confidently yet down to earth.

Misconceptions about Low Cost Carriers ( LCC )
Lately, there has been a lot of buzz about low cost carriers (LCC) going on especially after Singapore Airlines announce that they are setting up a new long haul no frills airline. In fact, the LCC has created a storm in the last few years and the hiring of pilots and cabin crew is far greater than premium airlines.
But to the general public and most of you, the initial perception about LCC are not encouraging. I always have questions such as are they safe to fly since they are low cost? Should I join them? Are their planes well maintained? Will I be viewed as a rejected person or someone who has no standard to join the premium airlines and etc etc.

Singapore Airlines to set up new low-cost carrier
SINGAPORE—Singapore Airlines (SIA) said Wednesday it will launch within one year a new budget airline using wide-body aircraft to tap into growing consumer demand for low-cost travel over longer distances.
SIA already runs a short-haul mid-price airline called SilkAir and owns 32.9 percent of budget carrier Tiger Airways but said it decided to establish the new subsidiary after “an extensive review and analysis” of the market.
It did not give a name for the future airline, saying more details will be announced “in due course” including its branding, services and routes.

Flying dreams a pie in the sky
I have many enquiries on whether you should take up a piloting course or not.If you see the article below ( though I personally believe that the number is actually more than 1000+) my advise is unless you are very SURE that you want to start a life long career as a pilot, it is better to take up a university degree first as a backup before you embark on this journey. Studying to get a pilot license is not cheap and if it is really your dream to become one and you have no financial constraint, by all means go ahead!
PETALING JAYA: Up to 500 licensed junior pilots in Malaysia have not been able to take to the skies in the last two years. There are just not enough jobs for them.
The number of flying schools have quadrupled from two about three years ago to eight now, resulting in an oversupply of fresh pilots vying for the limited number of positions as airline trainee pilots.
While the schools produced between 300 and 400 pilots annually in the last five years, their total intake for a year can reach up to 800, given that the course takes between 18 months and two years.

Is Cabin Crew a flying Prostitute ?
Ok ok, I know that my title is kinda controversial. Many of you have asked me whether being a cabin crew, do you have to sleep with the pilot, force to go to bed by the senior in order for promotions and etc etc. All I can say is, yeah, you watch too much movies. I am not saying that it doesn’t happen but it’s very very rare. Airlines have strict company policy and you can actually report them whether they are colleagues or passengers who try to take advantage of you.
Pilots or stewards are smart enough not to have fun one night or get into trouble by harassing colleagues which can jeopardize their career. It’s simply not worth it. Normally if it does happen, it’s with consent from both party, after all, it takes two to tango isn’t it? I know some of you have a tough time convincing your gf/bf regarding this job and you are torn between your newfound career and your relationship. I have many colleagues who are attached and married and they do have a stable relationship and know their limits. I guess to be in this line, you should be mature enough to know what you should and should not do.
