Malaysia Airlines ( MAS ) cabin crew interview process and stages - ( Updated Version - 2014 )

YAYY!! I finally get to fulfil my dream as a stewardess. It's my second time attending the walk-in interview actually. I'm going to document the interview process while it's still fresh in my memory.

The registration time starts at 8.30. My advice, be there early so you don't have to wait long.

Remember to take the registration form prior to entering the cafeteria - this is also the waiting area prior to having your height, weight and documents checked. Note that your queue number is written on that particular piece of form.

Once your number is called, you may then proceed to have your height and weight checked. Once the requirements are met, you can then proceed to document verification.

Before the first round interview, you will be asked to wait in the auditorium located on the first floor. Just be patient and your turn will come.

First round interview - 6 candidates to 2 interviewers

You will be asked to introduce yourself and they will ask you some random questions after that.

e.g.

Why do you want to become a stewardess?
What qualities do you possess that will benefit our airline?
What have you heard about our cabin crew?

Out of 6 candidates usually 2 or 3 will proceed to the next round.

Second round - grooming check (2 candidates to 1 facilitator)

They will check your height and weight again to see if there's any variance. The facilitator will then do a thorough skin check on your face, they will also look out for any scars. During the grooming check, the facilitator would want to see how you stride as well.

Third round interview - 6 candidates to 2 interviewers and 1 facilitator

As usual, you will be asked to introduce yourself again before questions are being thrown at you. They basically just want to see how you communicate.

e.g.

Pros and cons of social media.
Discuss ways to keep your body fit.
Would you prefer to marry a guy who is rich but old or someone who is young but poor?

Final round - 6 candidates to 2 interviewers

SIA cuts flying years: Captains to stop at 64, first officers at 62

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) has told its pilots that from next month, first officers will have to stop flying at the age of 62 and captains at 64.

Currently, re-employment subject to criteria such as good health and conduct is offered for up to three years when pilots reach 62.

But The Straits Times has learnt that in a recent staff circular, SIA said it has decided to cut flying years due to excess manpower amid a business slowdown.

In accordance with government guidelines and SIA's re-employment agreement with its pilots' union, affected pilots will receive an undisclosed lump-sum payment when they leave the company, the airline's spokesman said.

"We have also been providing assistance to help them find alternative employment," she added.

Captain Mok Hin Choon, president of the Air Line Pilots Association- Singapore, said: "We are surprised and rather disappointed with the company's decision. The move does not seem to be in sync with the Government's overall push for re-employment."

Emirates Cabin Crew Interview Process & Stages ( Updated Version - 2014 )

Follow me on Twitter at Flygosh@Twitter
Hi Flygosh members! I believe each of you must be feeling excited and desperately wanting to know more about how the airlines recruiting their crews, also how did the interview progress till the end. Therefore, I’m here to share some of my past experiences and hoping that Andy would publish my article for all of the readers in order for all of you to make it till the end

Well, let’s begin with Emirates Airlines, personally I have tried both of the recruitment on 2014. Don’t get me wrong as I didn’t make it into first round for the first recruitment, which is on 10th of Jan 2014 at The Renaissance. That was the first airlines I attend to its walk-in, however, I fail to make it because I didn’t prepare enough. Then I tried for second time which is on 26th Feb 2014 which is conducted in Ritz-Carlton. Unfortunately, I did not successfully got into the last interview though it was so close to the end

Still, I would love to share some of the bits that I have experienced. Before the interview, make sure you are ready and fully prepared as Emirates interview process can be really though and strict. Frankly saying, I wasn’t in a good condition when I was attending Emirates walk-in as I had a hectic week and was feeling depressive.

That’s why I need all of you to do me a favor which is to keep yourself motivated and surround yourself with the positive attributes before the interview. So, here it goes with a list before the INTERVIEWS :

Do some history and background of the airlines (a week ago would be best as there is quite a lot to study especially in remembering the names and dates)

Make sure you have a Full-Length and Passport Size Photo (with white background and business attire), they are pretty strict in this.

Go to their site and apply online with all the required attachments (resume/cover letter, full-length and passport –size photo) trust me, you have to do all these in order for you to nail it on the first day!
Go to YouTube and play some of their clips to study about their airlines as well as the crew’s life(tips : remember to check on the make-ups, hair and attires). You can study cabin crew tips from FlyGosh by clicking here

Remember to polish your nails, for females, do some manicure with nude, clear or red colors. For males, as long as it’s clean and neat.

Do some stretching for those who are about 158cm till 162cm as you might be facing a strict arm-reach test(for those who are not able to reach above the line, will be just sent home immediately and are not allow to participate for the group discussion as this will be the end of the interview).

Eat more vegetables and fruits, put on some masque and sleep early to give your skin have a better complexion.

On the INTERVIEW DAYS(FIRST DAY/CV Submission) :

Wake up early and get ready, the best is to arrive there at 8 am, an hour before the interview starts. Trust me, arriving early is always better than arriving late even it says 9am till 4pm. The interviewers will have a better mood in the early and meet them while your face is still looking fresh, it will be a certain plus for it!

FireFly Cabin Crew Interview Process & Stages

My interview experience with FireFly interview was up to last year June 13’. To be frank, I didn't really keen on this airline compare to airline AA & MAS. Hence, I didn't really prepare myself to attend the interview.

The process of interview though FireFly cabin crew interview is pretty simple. Again, I was just relaxed and chill to put on makeup and my mood was good, because I took the day as a normal working day. The interview conducted at Hotel Berjaya Times Square and I thought this interview won't be crowded or much people coming for the interview.

Oh well, I was so wrong! The crowd was beyond my imagination and everyone was busy filling up the registration form. I observed, the candidates were mostly Malays and Indians. Surprisingly, there was ex-crew from other airlines coming for the interview.

Well, let's proceed to the interview stages. As I mentioned early, Firefly Cabin Crew Interview was pretty simple. It was only 2 stages for the whole interview. As usual, the first stage was cat-walking, introduction and Q&A session.

For this stage, 5 candidates been called into a room. I remembered 3 interviewers in the room for this stage and they looked very serious. First of all, we need to do a cat walk in front of the interviewer. Don't assume this is a simple stage and just simply complete it. As the interviewers were observing our posture and face expression all the while.

Experience of Obtaining a Private Pilot License (PPL) in Malaysia as a Private Candidate

I am Yong Lim from Singapore and I obtained my PPL from the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCAM) in June 2013 as a private candidate. I am blessed and lucky to be part of Johor Flying Club.

After attaining my PPL, I fly regularly to stay current with my flying skills, and keep my aviation dream alive. Who knows, I may even fly into Space one day :) You can read more about it here from FlyGosh
.

There are many reasons for obtaining a PPL, and I will share my experience and tips when getting a PPL from Malaysia.

Tip 1: Be comfortable and familiar with the flying club/school you are about to enroll in.  Like a little kid stepping into school on the first day, it is natural to feel anxious and nervous. An orientation will calm the nerves of the anxious kid. Likewise, you may want to know the members and instructors better before enrolling yourself (i.e. through joy rides). Joy ride is a good indicator and orientation to attest if you really like flying and is comfortable with the flying club/school before sinking your hard earned $$$ into the PPL training.

Due to visa requirement by Malaysia’s immigration department, foreigners are supposed to apply the visa before a Student Pilot License (SPL) can be issued. The SPL allows the candidate to learn flying in Malaysia’s aviation space, and your club/school will usually assist in your application for both SPL and visa.

Note: Processing time for Visa and SPL may take a while (1 month or more). Do factor in the waiting time!

Tip 2: Commence ground papers preparations at the soonest.
