Khazanah confirms MAS delisting ( To be taken private )

Khazanah Nasional Bhd, which owns 69.4% of Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS), has proposed to take the national carrier private with an offer of 27 sen per share.

MAS stock closed at 24 sen yesterday before being suspended this morning.

The announcement by Khazanah today looks like a pre-emptive move to contain negative sentiment on MAS stock ahead of its second quarter results to be released in a fortnight – scheduled for Aug 22.
MAS is expected to report drastically worse losses for the quarter due to knee-jerk reactions on bookings after Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8.

That Boeing 777 with 239 on board, including 15 crew, is believed to have sunk somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean, close to Antarctica, and search efforts are still going on five months later to resolve what has become one major aviation mystery.

The impact of Flight MH17, shot down over Ukraine on July 17, will not be included in the upcoming results announcement – which covers the three months ended June 30, 2014.
But MAS is likely to provide an indication of the second tragedy’s impact on its earnings for the month of July too with its second quarter results.

In today’s statement, Khazanah said it had submitted a formal request to the MAS board of directors to undertake a selective capital reduction and repayment exercise.

Based on the 27 sen per MAS share offer, the exercise could cost Khazanah about RM1.4 billion.
Upon completion of this exercise, Khazanah said it will become the sole shareholder in MAS, which would lead to a delisting of MAS.

“Today’s proposal for delisting represents the first stage of the restructuring scheme.

“Khazanah is in the final stages of completing the overall restructuring proposal, and upon due process and approvals from the relevant authorities, regulators and the special shareholder, the Minister of Finance Incorporated, we envisage that additional detailed plans will be announced by the end of this month.

“We reiterate that the proposed restructuring will critically require all parties to work closely together to undertake what will be a complete overhaul of the national carrier on all relevant aspects.”

Khazanah said the review will cover the airline’s operations, business model, finances, human capital and regulatory environment.

“Nothing less will be required in order to revive our national airline to be profitable as a commercial entity and to serve its function as a critical national development entity.”

Air Asia cabin crew interview process and stages - ( Updated Version - 2014 )

Hey guys, I am going to write about my experience regarding the Air Asia interview for cabin crew on June 2014. I would like to start by giving a brief background about myself.

As cliché as it may sound, I always wanted to become an air stewardess since young. I don’t know why but I have a thing for flying! Being an air stewardess has always been my dream for 15 years (yes, 15 years!)

I remember very clearly because one day I was flipping my primary school report card where we had to write our ambition in it. Without fail, standard 1- standard 6, the ambition column was written pramugari  (air stewardess).

It has never changed after I carried on with my secondary school. So right after my SPM, I told my mom that I wanted achieve my dream to become an air stewardess, but what saddens me was my mom asked me to get a degree first before I can reach for my dream. Hence, here am I 4 years later after my degree, finally able to fulfil a dream of my own.

Moving on, one day when I was browsing FlyGosh, I saw an opportunity which is the Air Asia cabin crew walk in interview in Penang.

When I saw the post, I have mixed feelings. One hand I was really happy that there was a walk in interview open for everyone, on the other hand, I doubted myself if I have the qualifications to join Air Asia.

From what I heard from my friends who went to the Air Asia interview before, they have failed a numerous times as Air Asia is kinda picky, and they always look for petite (I have a huge body frame compared to other girls), and good looking (I am just an average looking girl) girls. These are some of the reason and fears that discouraged me to go for the interview. But at last I thought, why not give it a go, I will not lose anything if I really fail the interview.

Here are the things to you need to prepare for the interview:

SIA aims to cut pilot training time from 3 years to 2

Future Singapore Airlines (SIA) cadet pilots can expect to graduate in two years instead of three, and with skills that should better prepare them for actual flight operations.

The airline has carried out a detailed study on a new multi-crew pilot licence (MPL) programme and is now preparing for a field test.

Unlike the conventional training method, the new teaching programme focuses on simulator experience and multi-crew operations, instead of solo flying.

The plan is for the bulk of the training to be done in Singapore, instead of at SIA's facilities in Australia where cadets currently spend much of their time.

The field test will start soon and involve up to eight new SIA cadets. Those already being trained will not be affected.

SIA spokesman Nicholas Ionides told The Straits Times: "As cadets are immersed early on into the airline environment, the training provided is more airline specific, equipping cadets with the relevant skills to operate in the cockpit of a multi-crew airliner."

Currently, cadets who graduate from the flight academy need to be trained in multi-crew cooperation skills before moving to the aircraft they will be flying.

It takes about three years for the full training to be completed.

SIA is proposing a 24-month plan for its new training programme which must first be approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. A spokesman said it is reviewing details of SIA's trial.

So far, budget carrier Tigerair is the only Singapore airline to have been given the green light to conduct multi-crew pilot licence training.

Approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation in 2006, the new programme is backed by global carriers represented by the International Air Transport Association.

To the pilots and cabin crews of Malaysia Airlines – John Teo

I woke up this morning, opened my iPad and staring at me was the article reporting that Malaysia Airlines' cabin crew are too shocked and depressed to fly.

This is my letter to all Malaysia Airlines' pilots and cabin crews; and indeed all pilots and cabin crews of the world's airlines, for the tragedies of MH370 and MH17 not only affected the crews and captains of Malaysia Airlines, but the airlines of the world and we as the passengers are equally shocked and depressed too.

These two unprecedented tragedies affect the way we think about air travel; that air travel has been a second nature to most of us, that safety was mostly never on our minds as we booked our tickets – has now been replaced by fear and doubt and second thoughts as to the need for us to fly.

I can only imagine it's even worse for the pilots and cabin crews, as having the intrinsic knowledge of what possible mishaps that could happen in the air, which makes it more worrying and fearsome thus amplifying the realms of what is beyond our control.

Akin to a doctor who knows all the possible complications of a surgery, which at many times are more fearful of the surgery than the patients themselves.

Top 5 deadliest attacks on commercial airliners

LONDON (Reuters) - A Malaysian airliner was brought down over eastern Ukraine on Thursday, killing all 295 people aboard and sharply raising the stakes in a conflict between Kiev and pro-Moscow rebels in which Russia and the West back opposing sides.

If confirmed as having been downed by missile fire, the attack will be the deadliest incident of a commercial passenger plane being shot down since the 1960s.

Since 1967 more than 700 people have been killed in 19 separate incidents involving live-fire attacks, according to UK-based aviation consultancy Flightglobal Ascend which keeps a detailed database of aircraft accidents.

The most recent attack was in January 1999 when a Lockheed Hercules plane operated by TransAfrik was reportedly shot down near Bailundo in Angola, killing all nine passengers and crew on board.
Following is a list of the five deadliest incidents:

    IRAN AIR, 1988

En route from Bandar Abbas to Dubai, Iran Air flight 655 was shot down by a U.S. warship off the coast of Iran, killing all 290 onboard. The U.S. Navy said it had mistaken the Airbus A300 for a hostile Iranian Air Force F-14 fighter jet.

    KOREAN AIR, 1983

A Korean Air Boeing 747 was intercepted and forced down by Soviet fighters after straying into Soviet airspace on a flight from Anchorage, Alaska, to Seoul in South Korea. All 289 passengers and crew were killed.

Malaysia Airlines passenger plane 'shot down' in Ukraine crash

Follow me on Twitter at Flygosh@Twitter
A Malaysian passenger plane with 295 people on board has been shot down as it flew above eastern Ukraine, according to aviation sources.

The plane, which is believed to have been flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was travelling at an altitude of 10km (6.2 miles) when it was shot down, Russia's Inferfax reported.

The aircraft, reportedly a Boeing 777, was brought down by a ground-to-air missile, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry quoted by the news agency said.

A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines confirmed it had lost contact with flight MH17, which departed from Amsterdam at 12.14am local time.

The flight disappeared from radar as it flew over Ukrainian airspace, he said.

Sky's Katie Stallard, in Moscow, said media reports suggest the plane came down in an area where there has been recent heavy fighting amid continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Video apparently filmed in the area, which Sky News has not been able to independently verify, shows plumes of thick, black smoke rising high into the air.

    More follows...

    Airbus launches the A330neo

Following a decision by the Board of Directors of the Group, Airbus has launched the A330-800neo and A330-900neo, two new members of its Widebody Family, which will incorporate latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, aerodynamic enhancements and new cabin features.

Benefitting from the unbeatable economics, versatility and high reliability of the A330, the A330neo reduces fuel consumption by 14% per seat, making it the most cost efficient, medium range

Widebody aircraft on the market. In addition to greater fuel savings, A330neo operators will benefit from a range increase of up to 400 nautical miles and all the operational commonality advantages of the Airbus Family. Deliveries of the A330neo will start in Q4 2017.

“The A330 is a very important margin contributor for our Group. It’s also one of the most reliable and efficient commercial aircraft ever. Customers love it. With our decision to re-engine the plane, we will keep the A330 flying high for many more years to come. The development costs for the A330neo will be incurred from 2015 to 2017 with an impact of around -70 basis points on Airbus Group’s 2015 Return on Sales target. However, we have a very good business case and the A330neo, once in service, will continue to significantly contribute to our group’s earnings,” said Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus Group.

“The A330neo is the logical evolution of our reliable and versatile A330 Family. It provides an optimal solution for airlines around the world looking to minimise their fuel and operating costs while offering best-in-class comfort to their passengers,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO.

“We see strong market potential for the A330neo, and like its market-leading smaller sister, the A320neo, we are confident this new aircraft will be a success in the medium-haul segment. We are again leveraging a proven aircraft with a wide operator base and making it even more efficient with the latest innovations and technology developments.”

In addition to the new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo will feature incremental innovations, including aerodynamic enhancements such as new A350 XWB inspired winglets, an increased wing span and new engine pylons.

Pilots will benefit from latest generation cockpit systems, and the already very comfortable A330 cabin will be further optimised to offer up to ten additional 18 inch wide seats. Passengers are winners too, as they will be able to enjoy a 21st century on-board experience with for example, fourth generation In Flight Entertainment (3D films), mood-lighting and full connectivity.

Rayani Air- New airline in Malaysia (Base in Melaka )

Rayani Air, a new airline base in Melaka plan to start operating using the Boeing 737 to meet the demand for additional, higher-quality passenger service linking Malacca with many popular markets of Peninsular Malaysia, and Sabah and Sarawak.

The airline bases its business and marketing strategies on achieving high, and profitable, load factors through absorption of un-met demand in three key air-traffic categories:

    1) Un-served and under-served routes on which high un-met demandcurrently exists or can be readily developed;

    2) Serving key niche markets where demand is either unmet or poorly served;

    3) Meeting peak traffic demands on certain key regional, seasonal, and variable routes where very high load factors can be predicted despite existing but lower-quality competition or where competition cannot meet the demand

In addition, Rayani Air is designed around, and operated utilizing, the traditional travel agency to ensure low operating and marketing costs, maximum efficiency indeployment of its resources, and a high level of customer service and convenience.
