Australia to give visas to foreign pilots to fix growing shortage

Foreign pilots will be allowed entry into Australia on two-year work visas to fix a growing national shortage that is seeing planes grounded and flights cancelled.

The move has been questioned by Qantas pilots who have raised doubt over the quality of pilots likely to be recruited in regional areas.

“The United States and China are paying huge money and that doesn’t leave much for the sort of wages they are paying in regional Australia,” Murray Butt, president of the Australian and 
International Pilots Association, which represents more than 2000 Qantas pilots, told News Corp.
“We need to look at the Chinese airlines buying up flight schools in Australia. That might fix their problem but it doesn’t fix ours.”

However, the peak body for regional airlines has claimed the move by the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton was made after their own lobbying efforts.

Mike Higgins, CEO of the Regional Aviation Association of Australia, told News Corp the government had advised that the decision would be confirmed in a revised skilled occupation list — replacing the former 457 visa regime — to be released next month.

He also said the association is talking with the Minister about extending the visa period to four years.
Qantas pilots are wanting a government white paper to address declining output of Australian flying skills, describing the move to bring in foreign pilots as a “very short-term fix”.

The lack of pilots is a result of poaching of major airline pilots by overseas airlines and increasing foreign ownership of pilot training skills.

The problem is already being felt with Qantas forced to cancel a number of its regional services.

REQUIREMENTS


• Holds a valid ATPL recognised by CAAS
• Minimum 1500 total flying hours on commercial jet aircraft. Preference will be given to applicants with previous flight experience on a commercial aircraft equipped with glass cockpit technology, including FMS

Air Asia Cabin Crew Interview Process and Stages - ( Updated Version 2017 )


As another AirAsia interview will be held this coming month,I would like to share my experience during their recent intake with all of you. Here are the stages that you have to go through :

1. Height check
2. Document check
3. Catwalk/Scar-Tatoo check/Self  Introduction
4. English Test
5. Group activity
6. Interview - 2 to 1


1. First stage - HEIGHT CHECK


Minimum height (barefoot) for Female is 157cm and max will be 170cm. They will immediately reject you on the spot (nicely of course),if your height doesn't meet their requirement.


2. Second stage - DOCUMENT CHECK


First of all,you need to ensure that if you use your SPM Cert,CREDIT in ENGLISH is compulsory,PASS in BAHASA MALAYSIA and atleast ONE other credit for any subject.  Some of the candidates were rejected due to the fact that they didn't knew about this.


Documents needed are :

i ) Application form
You can print out from their website or get it during the interview.

ii ) Original and Photocopy of SPM Cert or any Higher Education cert

iii ) Recent UPDATED Resume

iv ) Original and Copy of your IC

v ) 1 latest passport size photo

vi ) 1 latest full body postcard size photo

Upon finishing with the document check,you will be given a number and wait for them to call you.

Responsibilities 


To attend pre-flight briefing, during which Flight Attendant are assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight

To carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy, ensuring that information in the seat pockets is up to date and that all meals and stock are on board

To welcome passengers on board and directing them to their seats;

To inform passengers of the aircraft safety procedures and ensuring that all hand luggage is
securely stored away;

To check all passenger seat belts and galleys are secure prior to take-off;

Make announcements on behalf of the pilot and answering passenger questions during
the flight;

To performs sales on meal & duty-free goods and advising passengers of any allowance

Ensure passengers disembark safely at the end of a flight and checking that there is no
luggage left in the overhead lockers; completing paperwork, including writing a flight report

At Cathay Dragon, we only hire Second Officers through our cadet programme.

You do not need any previous flying experience to join our cadet programme. Apply now for your chance for sponsorship through one of our world class training centres (L3 Airline Academy or Flight Training Adelaide) and a fast track your career to Captain at a premier Airline.

Requirements:
  • Hong Kong Permanent Resident
  • Be physically fit and qualify for a HKCAD Class 1 Medical
  • Secondary school education with good passes in English language, physics and mathematics, or a degree in any discipline (science subjects preferred)
  • Be 18 years of age or more
  • ICAO English Language Proficiency
  • Good command of Chinese is an added advantage
