Virgin Atlantic Pilot Recruitment - A330 Cadet Pilot ( Fully sponsored )

Virgin Atlantic has announced its airline pilot career programme – the Virgin Atlantic Future Flyers Programme, offering potential pilots the chance to join the airline with no previous flying experience. This is the first time that Virgin Atlantic has offered a programme of this kind.

The fully-sponsored programme, run in partnership with CTC Aviation, is the only one in Europe that sees new recruits training on long-haul aircraft once they receive their license. The programme is fully-sponsored; cadets will be asked to lodge a security deposit of £109,000 at the beginning of their training and cadets’ investment will be repaid during employment with Virgin Atlantic (subject to qualification criteria) on completion of training.

It may also be possible for Virgin Atlantic to act as bank loan guarantors for a small number of successful candidates if required. Virgin states that the programme offers an opportunity for everyone, including the most exceptional candidates with potentially limited financial resource.

Applications are now open via www.ctcaviation.com/virginatlantic for two weeks.
David Kistruck, General Manager, Flight Operations at Virgin Atlantic, explained, “Our people have always been at the heart of Virgin Atlantic and we’re delighted to offer this opportunity to a whole new generation of flyers.

They’ll be part of the Virgin family from day one and will enjoy an opportunity like no other, as the only trainee pilots in Europe to fly straight onto long-haul aircraft once qualified, building their career as an ambassador for one of the world’s most iconic brands.

“It’s an exciting chapter in our history to be able to offer a programme that closes the gap between the dream and the reality of piloting a long haul aircraft and we’re looking forward to finding our diverse and talented flight crew for the future.”

Japan unveils first passenger jet in four decades

The first passenger aircraft to be made in Japan in nearly four decades was unveiled today as its manufacturer pushed into the booming regional jet sector with an eye to taking on industry giants Embraer and Bombardier.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, a military contractor best known for its "Zero" World War II fighter, pulled back the curtain on its new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), a fuel-efficient, next-generation aircraft that claims to offer more passenger comfort with lower operating costs.

The jet, which will be delivered to customers from 2017 and was built with assistance from aviation giant Boeing, was unveiled at a ceremony in Komaki, near the central city of Nagoya, today.

"The dream of a Japanese-made product that can be proudly presented to the world for top-notch efficiency and top-notch passenger comfort is finally coming true," said Mitsubishi Heavy Industries chairman Hideaki Omiya.

"This wonderful aircraft that Japan has created after (a wait of) half a century carries with it many people's hopes and dreams."

The plane marks a new chapter for Japan's aviation sector, which last built a commercial airliner in 1962 – the YS-11 turboprop. It was discontinued about a decade later.

Teruaki Kawai, president and chief operating officer of Mitsubishi Aircraft, recently said that the plane boasted "state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, and a game-changing engine (that) will significantly cut fuel consumption, noise and emissions, helping airlines enhance competitiveness and profitability in the future".

Raya Airways - New airline in Malaysia ( Formerly Transmile )

(From left) Mohamad Najib, Raya Airways executive chairman Dr Kamaruzaman Mohamath Shariff (seated) and commercial director Lee Shashitheren.

Raya Airways Sdn Bhd, the restructured entity of Transmile Air Services Sdn Bhd (TAS), formerly a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transmile Group Bhd whose RM530 million accounting fraud was the biggest corporate scandal in mid-2007, is going through a major strategic transformation in a bid to shake off its old image.

In July last year, Transmile Group disposed of TAS to Amrul Nizar Anuar Resources Sdn Bhd for RM40 million, which renamed the carrier Raya Airways.

A search at the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) revealed that Amrul Nizar Anuar Resources’ main shareholder is CIMB Islamic Trustee Bhd (5.2 million shares), with Raya Airways managing director Mohamad Najib Ishak holding one share. Amrul Nizar Anuar Resources directors are former KFC Holdings (M) Bhd deputy executive chairman Datuk Ishak Ismail, Aizul Rohan Anuar, Ahmad Hazman Salleh, Mohamad Yusof Ishak and Mohamad Najib.

As at May 26, 2014, Raya Airways’ authorised share capital stood at RM500 million and its issued capital was RM266.7 million. Its directors included AirAsia Bhd’s former chief financial officer Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali, Destini Bhd group managing director Datuk Rozabil@Rozamujib Abdul Rahaman, Raya Airways executive chairman Dr Kamaruzaman Mohamath Shariff, Tan Tong Lang and Mohamad Najib.

In an interview with The Edge Financial Daily, Raya Airways commercial director Lee Shashitheren said the air cargo carrier would invest US$180 million (RM586.8 million) in a fleet-renewal programme and new warehouses, retrain pilots and increase its manpower in the next three to five years.

Lee said with the fleet-renewal exercise, Raya Airways would replace three of its aging Boeing 727-200s that have a cargo capacity of 22 tonnes with four larger 757-200s, which are able to carry loads of up to 32 tonnes, by year-end.
