DCA: No change in unemployment of pilots in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19, 2013): There is not
much change in the unemployment rate of pilots in Malaysia since last
year, said Datuk Azharuddin Abd Rahim, Director-General of Department of
Civil Aviation (DCA).
The number of unemployed licensed pilots as of August 2012 stood at 1,174. He said the employment of pilots like any other profession in the world would be based on the supply and demand in the job market and the excess was noticeable since 2011 and soared last year when many of them made complaints to the DCA.
"In early 2000, there was a sudden high demand for pilots by Malaysia Airlines that Malaysia's only flying academy at the time, Malaysian Flying Academy (MFA), was not able to cope.
"Following this, DCA had approved four Australia's flight training organisations for us to send our student pilots," he told Bernama in an interview recently.
MFA is the only local approved flying training organisation (AFTO) in the country that has been producing pilots in the country. However, Azharuddin said due to concerns on high cost and foreign exchange, Malaysian aviation entrepreneurs were invited to participate in the pilots training business

Singapore Air and Tata plan full-service Indian airline
India's Tata Group and Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI) plan to form a full-service airline based in New Delhi, adding a deep-pocketed player to a fast-growing but competitive Indian aviation sector where most operators lose money.
The two will initially invest a combined $100 million to start the carrier, with Tata Sons TATAS.UL owning 51 percent and Singapore Airlines, Asia's second-biggest carrier by market capitalization, the rest.
The tie-up is the second airline joint-venture announced this year by the Tata Group, a salt-to-software conglomerate that is India's biggest business group.
In February, Tata and Malaysia's AirAsia Bhd (AIRA.KL) announced plans for a low-fare airline based in the south Indian city of Chennai. Tata has a minority stake in that venture, which aims to start service by the end of the year.

Thai Airways Airbus 330 skids off Bangkok runway, 14 injured
BANGKOK (Reuters) - An Airbus 330-300 operated by Thai Airways skidded off the runway at Bangkok's main international airport after the nose wheel collapsed on landing late Sunday night, injuring 14 passengers, the airline said.
The flight from Guangzhou, China, was carrying 288 passengers and 14 crew members. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides and the 14 injured were sent to a Bangkok hospital, Thai Airways said.
"Thai Airways International Flight TG 679 from Guangzhou was scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 23:00 hours local time. The nose gear failed as the plane touched the runway causing the plane to skid," the airline said in an emailed statement.
"Sparks were noticed from the vicinity of the right landing gear near the engine; the matter is under investigation" by Thai civil aviation officials, it said.
Bangkok's futuristic Suvarnabhumi airport opened seven years ago and has since become one of the busiest airports in Asia. Built to handle 45 million passengers a year, Suvarnabhumi Airport is already seeing 53 million passengers annually.

Singapore socialite Jamie Chua - Queen of Instagram
She has close to 89,000 followers on the year-old social media account, making her one of the top Instagram fashionistas in Singapore.
She not only posts photographs of her outfits, she also shares pictures of her shopping buys and her extensive designer handbag and shoe collections.
One picture shows her cleaning her bag closet with the caption: “There are some things that cannot be left to the help.”
Fan comments range from thumbs-ups for the day’s outfit and handbag, to excited reports of sightings of Chua as if she is a celebrity. At least two separate fan clubs have been set up on Instagram to repost her pictures: jamiechuafcsg and jamiechuafansclub at instagram.com.
“It’s great. I get to share my fashion sense,” the mother of two teenagers says at her bungalow in Merryn Road, Singapore, perfectly attired in the last of three outfits chosen for this three-hour-long interview – a white Givenchy top, a trailing black skirt by Balmain and, of course, her signature Christian Louboutin heels that are at least 10cm high.
