Commander in
relation to an aircraft operation, means a person who at a stipulated
time, is in charge of the piloting of the aircraft without being under
the direction of any other pilot in the same aircraft.
He is assigned by the Company to ensure all safety matters are managed during all phases of flight.

Key Accountability
The
Commander is responsible for the safety of all crew members, passengers
and/or cargo onboard the aircraft when the doors are closed.He is also
responsible for the operation and safety of the aircraft from the moment
the aircraft is ready to move for the purpose of taking off until the
moment it finally comes to rest at the end of the flight and the engines
are shut down.
Ensure compliance for all operational procedures & checklists depicted in the Operations Manual. In an emergency situation requiring immediate & decisive action, may take measures he considers necessary under the circumstances, to ensure the safety of the aircraft and its occupants & cargo.
Qualification
Hold an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
Must apply before 56th birthday.
Working Experience
a.6000 Grand Total hours
b.2000 hours Command experience on a commercial jet aircraft with MTOW greater than 50 tonnes
c.500 hours Command experience on type.
d.Type rated Airbus A330/A340.

Skill & Knowledge
Knowledge of regulatory requirement, company’s policy and other airlines standard.
Sound flying skills with knowledge of operations disciplines, specialised technical knowledge of current fleets in the system.
Well verse in airline safety management concept, appreciation and working knowledge of accident prevention concepts and methods.
Strong in interpersonal and communications skills, good analytical skill, and good at issue engagements.
