Griffith University has entered into a cadet training agreement with Cathay Pacific.

In a first for Australian aviation, students enrolled in the Griffith University program will now have the opportunity to secure a position on a Cathay Pacific Advanced Entry Cadet program.

This airline-sponsored 32-week course will commence when successful students obtain their ICAO CPL and have met required hours in specific categories to meet HKCAD licensing requirements.
Griffith University School of Aviation Head, Associate Professor Paul Bates, said the breakthrough cadetship with the airline is expected to supply a significant number of its future pilots.

“We are honoured to partner with Cathay Pacific to support both innovation and encourage greater diversity of enrolment into airline pilot training throughout Australia and the Asia Pacific,” he said.

“This new relationship with Cathay is truly complementary to the 20-year heritage of Griffith providing pilots to airlines worldwide.

“We are anticipating a strong response to this attractive new cadetship which seeks to remove some of the traditional barriers to becoming an airline pilot.”

The Griffith Bachelor of Aviation will provide students with highly valuable airline management, commercial, economic and operational skills which will enhance their value to prospective employers such as Cathay Pacific.

Australian students enrolled in the program will also have access to Australian Government FEE-HELP.

It is expected that demand for available places (up to 120 in year one) will be highly competitive.
