Project Manager takes up flying in the US at own expense ; May achieve dream of going to space

Foo Yong Lim, 30, a project manager working in the financial sector, had wanted to be a pilot ever since he was a child. However, he had always just failed to achieve his dream over the past 12 years. He never gave up and continued to strive, eventually getting his pilot's licence and even the opportunity to become the first Singaporean to reach the edge of space in a helium balloon.

Foo had undergone military flight training in National Service at the age of 18. Soaring through the blue skies was a thrilling experience for him but this only lasted for a few months. After that, he was not chosen to continue with training due to the strict selection criteria.

After he completed National Service, he was accepted by Imperial College London in Britain to study aeronautical engineering. However, it was costly to study overseas and Foo, who comes from a middle-class family, switched to take bioengineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

During his university days, he tried to join the Youth Flying Club but was unsuccessful, perhaps due to being too "old". In his second year of university, NTU introduced Singapore's first aerospace engineering degree programme. He had wanted to switch his major but considering that he needed to retake at least half a year of credit without any subsidies, he abandoned this opportunity to achieve his dream.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Required to operate the Company’s aircraft to the highest professional standards.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers, other crew members and the aircraft.
  • Serve the company in any part of the world and on any of the routes served by the company, including the operation of special or chartered flights, passenger or freighter aircraft;
  • Undertake ground handling, in accordance with the ground handling course conducted for pilots, at stations where the aircraft has diverted to and/or where the company has not engaged a contractor to provide ground handling services for the type of aircraft you’re serving on; and perform such other duties in the air and on the ground as the company may reasonably require of a First Officer / Captain.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Min. 1500 hours on a commercial jet aircraft for First Officers.
  • Min. 5000 hours on a commercial jet aircraft for Captains out of which 2000 hours must be in command.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with Glass Cockpit/Flight Management Systems experience.
  • Pilots without a B777 rating will have to undergo a conversion and be expected to fund 50% of the costs.

  • The next Assessment Centre will be conducted on 13th February 2014.

Cadet Pilot - Emirates



Introduction
We are looking for U.A.E. Nationals to become pilots with Emirates. You will be trained to the highest standard and fly one of the most modern fleets in the sky.

Traning
The training duration is approximately four years and is divided into three main phases:

First phase (Foundation Programme): takes place in Dubai at Emirates Training College. Duration of this programme will be 36-75 weeks and will include English and Aviation English and Aviation Science courses; depending on the trainee?s English language abilities.

Second Phase (Flight Training Programme): takes place outside the UAE (Spain) for 18 months. This phase will provide approximately 223 hours of flight experience to trainees; and give them a course completion certificate and a Frozen Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).

Third Phase: takes place in Dubai. Upon completion of this phase; trainees are ready to fly large jet aircrafts.

Cabin Crew Recruitment - Japan Airlines ( Base in Singapore )


 

Responsibilities

  • Attending a pre-flight briefing, during which cabin crew are assigned their working positions for the upcoming flight. Crew are also informed of flight details, the schedule and if there are passengers with any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers, passengers in wheelchairs or the number of infants on board.
  • Carrying out pre-flight duties, including checking the safety equipment, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy.
  • Welcoming passengers on board and directing them to their seats.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 GCE 'O' levels with at least a credit in English.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is required to liaise with Mandarin speaking clients. Knowledge of Japanese would be an advantage.
  • Must be Singaporean or Permanent Resident.

  • Good skin complexion. Wearing of contact lens is allowed.
